Some sort of reindeer/elk ruminant near Haast pass, New Zealand, 'Land of the Long White Cloud' series January 2009. I like this photo because I don't own a fishbowl lens, but was at a decent angle to achieve that look by being waaaay too close to the elk. This is actually the third time I've encountered these elk-things (still not sure what they are!!), as I did in 2006 in New Zealand as well. (ALSO near Haast pass, but this one looks a bit different than the other two I saw.)
