'American Life' series, NY 2007. On the way home from work while I was staying in NY, I noticed smoke coming from my neighborhood, and when I got home my neighbor's house was completely consumed in flames. I called the fire department and the rest of the neighborhood soon started crowding around as 12 fire trucks closed down the street, but it was too late and the house burned completely to the ground. (And their cars MELTED in the driveway from the heat!) I felt a little guilty taking pictures of a minor disaster, but I waited until the barricades were put up and everyone was evacuated from the area so it wouldn't seem too tactless.
